New shield could make heart procedures safer for medical teams
NCT ID NCT06875583
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Doctors and nurses who perform heart procedures using X-rays are exposed to radiation, which can increase their risk of cancer and eye damage. This study tests a new device called RAMPART that may better protect them. Researchers will compare radiation levels with and without the device during 100 heart procedures.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- RAMPART radiation protection device
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this device could significantly reduce radiation exposure for heart specialists, lowering their long-term health risks and allowing them to work more comfortably.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to all settings. The device may not reduce radiation as much as hoped, or could be impractical in daily use.
