New combo treatment aims to spare rectal cancer patients from surgery

NCT ID NCT04703101

Summary

This early-stage trial is testing whether a short, intense course of radiation followed by several months of chemotherapy can effectively shrink rectal tumors. The main goal is to see if this approach can eliminate the cancer enough that patients can avoid having their rectum surgically removed, which could greatly improve their quality of life. The study will enroll about 25 patients with stage II or III rectal cancer that has not spread to other parts of the body.
