New combo therapy may let some rectal cancer patients avoid surgery
NCT ID NCT07474103
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new treatment plan for people with high-risk rectal cancer that hasn't spread. Patients get a short course of radiation, then a mix of chemotherapy and immunotherapy before considering surgery. If the cancer disappears completely, patients may choose a 'watch and wait' approach instead of immediate surgery. The goal is to see if this approach improves outcomes and possibly avoids the need for surgery.
