NCT ID NCT06304909
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looked at 111 people having arm surgery to see if a drug called dexmedetomidine or dexamethasone could prevent severe pain when the numbing shot wears off. Participants got one of the two drugs or a saltwater placebo. The goal was to see which drug reduces the chance of sudden, intense pain 12 to 24 hours after the block.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
dexmedetomidine and dexamethasone
What this could lead to
If one drug works better, it could give doctors a simple way to prevent severe pain after a nerve block wears off.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study (Phase 1) with only 111 people. Results may not apply to everyone, and the drugs may not show a clear difference.
