Quick test for COVID, flu, and RSV aims to slash unnecessary antibiotic use

NCT ID NCT07243249

First seen Nov 21, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a rapid test that checks for three common respiratory viruses (COVID-19, flu, and RSV) can help doctors prescribe fewer antibiotics. Many respiratory infections are viral, but without a clear diagnosis, antibiotics are often given unnecessarily, which can lead to antibiotic resistance. The study will involve 2,000 people with symptoms like fever and cough, comparing usual care to care guided by the rapid test results.
