Heart attack drug aims to save tiny vessels
NCT ID NCT07380919
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether the drug ranolazine can protect the tiny blood vessels in the heart after a heart attack. One hundred adults who had a major heart attack and have at least one other blocked artery will receive either ranolazine plus standard care or standard care alone. The main goal is to see if ranolazine helps keep the small vessels working better, measured by a special index at the start and after about six weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ranolazine
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new way to protect the heart's tiny blood vessels after a heart attack, potentially reducing long-term damage.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage trial with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Ranolazine can cause side effects like dizziness, nausea, and constipation.
