Gentler liver treatment for elderly cancer patients shows promise
NCT ID NCT05092880
First seen May 15, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looked at a treatment called radioembolization for older or frail patients with colorectal cancer that spread only to the liver and couldn't be removed by surgery. The treatment uses tiny radioactive beads injected into the liver's blood supply to target tumors directly. The goal was to see if this approach could control the cancer as well as standard chemotherapy but with fewer side effects. The study was stopped early, but it aimed to offer a better-tolerated option for patients who cannot handle strong chemotherapy.
