New shorter radiation regimen aims to improve sarcoma treatment

NCT ID NCT07507773

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jul 24, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This phase 2 trial is testing a shorter, more intense radiation schedule given before surgery for soft tissue sarcoma in the arms, legs, or trunk. The goal is to see if this approach can keep the cancer from coming back in the same spot. About 135 adults will receive 15 radiation sessions over 3 weeks, followed by surgery, and then be monitored for up to 5 years.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
moderately hypofractionated radiotherapy (15 sessions over 3 weeks)
What this could lead to
If successful, this shorter radiation schedule could become a standard option before surgery for soft tissue sarcoma, reducing treatment time while maintaining tumor control.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 2 trial with only 135 participants, so results are preliminary. The shorter radiation course may not control the tumor as well as standard longer regimens, and side effects could differ.
