New combo therapy aims to boost lung cancer fight
NCT ID NCT01345851
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial is testing a new way to give radiation therapy for people with stage II-III non-small cell lung cancer that cannot be removed with surgery. Instead of standard daily radiation for many weeks, patients receive a shorter, higher-dose course (hypofractionated radiation) along with chemotherapy drugs carboplatin and paclitaxel. The main goal is to find the highest safe radiation dose, while also checking if this approach helps control the tumor and improves survival.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
carboplatin and paclitaxel (chemotherapy drugs) plus hypofractionated radiation therapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could offer a more effective and shorter treatment option for people with inoperable lung cancer, potentially improving local tumor control and survival.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial (29 participants) focused on finding the safest radiation dose, not yet proving effectiveness. Side effects from high-dose radiation and chemotherapy can be significant.
