Blood test could reveal how lung cancer evolves during treatment
NCT ID NCT04566432
First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study investigates whether a simple blood test (liquid biopsy) can track how advanced non-small cell lung cancer changes during immunotherapy or targeted therapy. Researchers will analyze tumor DNA circulating in the blood to see if it can predict treatment response and detect resistance early. The study involves 252 adults with stage IIIB or IV lung cancer who are starting first-line immune checkpoint inhibitors or targeted therapy for specific genetic mutations.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a blood test that helps doctors quickly see if lung cancer treatment is working or if resistance is developing.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, so it does not test a new treatment. The findings may not change practice without further validation in larger trials.
