Can we predict lung trouble in arthritis patients?

NCT ID NCT03297775

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at 750 people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who are 45 or older to find early signs of interstitial lung disease (ILD), a serious lung complication. Researchers will use CT scans and track changes over 3-5 years to identify risk factors. The goal is to better understand who is at risk and why, without testing any new drug or treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors identify which rheumatoid arthritis patients are at risk for lung disease earlier, potentially leading to better monitoring and prevention strategies.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not testing a treatment. It may not directly change patient care, and results might not apply to all RA patients.
