New ultrasound technique could spot hidden liver cancers
NCT ID NCT06345508
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a new type of ultrasound, called quantitative ultrasound (QUS), can find liver cancers that standard ultrasound often misses. About 328 adults at risk for liver cancer will receive both QUS and standard ultrasound, and results will be compared to MRI or biopsy. If QUS works better, it could help catch liver cancer earlier, when it is more treatable.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Quantitative Ultrasound (QUS)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could make liver cancer detection more accurate and accessible, catching tumors early when they are curable.
What could go wrong
This is a diagnostic study, not a treatment. The new technique may not prove significantly better than standard ultrasound, and results may not apply to all patients.
