Fluid overload hides true lung pressure in dialysis patients, study aims to unmask it
NCT ID NCT07676786
First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at why people with end-stage kidney disease on dialysis often develop high blood pressure in the lungs (pulmonary hypertension). Fluid buildup can make this condition seem worse than it is. Researchers will first correct fluid levels, then use heart ultrasound and, if needed, a catheter to measure lung pressures accurately. The goal is to find the true rate and types of pulmonary hypertension in this group.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could improve how doctors diagnose and classify pulmonary hypertension in dialysis patients, leading to more accurate treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a small observational study, so findings may not apply to all patients. It does not test a new treatment, so direct patient benefits are limited.
