Can we predict PTSD after a traumatic injury?

NCT ID NCT07530432

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This observational study will follow 250 adults treated in the emergency department for major trauma. Researchers want to see if early factors like thinking flexibility, social support, and stress levels can predict who develops PTSD within 6 months. Participants fill out questionnaires and have assessments at the start and after 1, 3, and 6 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could help identify which trauma patients are most at risk for PTSD, enabling earlier support and prevention strategies.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial, so it won't directly improve outcomes. Results may not apply to all trauma populations or settings.
