Talking it out: could counseling be the key to beating TB?
NCT ID NCT07703696
First seen Jul 14, 2026 · Last updated Jul 15, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether structured psychosocial counseling can improve treatment adherence in adults newly diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis. Participants in 10 primary health centers in Indonesia will either receive standard care or standard care plus counseling sessions. The goal is to see if counseling reduces stigma, distress, and missed doses during the first two months of treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- psychosocial counseling
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this counseling approach could become a low-cost way to boost treatment adherence and reduce stigma for TB patients in primary care.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage study with 108 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The quasi-experimental design also makes it harder to prove cause and effect.
