New imaging showdown: can PSMA PET/CT beat MRI for prostate cancer detection?
NCT ID NCT07533344
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looked at 60 men who had a prostate biopsy to check for cancer. It compared two imaging methods used to guide the biopsy: the standard multiparametric MRI and a newer scan called Ga-68 PSMA PET/CT. The goal was to see which method better finds aggressive prostate cancers. The results could help doctors choose the best imaging tool for biopsy guidance.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Ga-68 PSMA (a radioactive tracer used in PET/CT imaging)
What this could lead to
If PSMA PET/CT proves better than MRI at guiding biopsies, it could become a new standard for detecting aggressive prostate cancers more accurately.
What could go wrong
This is a small, retrospective study (60 patients) that only compares imaging methods, not a treatment trial. Results may not apply to all patients or settings.
