NCT ID NCT05866471
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study explores whether combining a single dose of psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) with a gentle ear stimulation device can help people remember the insights they gain during the psychedelic experience for longer. Researchers will enroll 108 healthy adults with mild emotional distress and use brain scans and memory questionnaires to measure effects. The goal is to understand how to enhance the lasting benefits of psychedelic experiences.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
psilocybin
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a way to make insights from psychedelic experiences last longer, potentially improving mental well-being.
What could go wrong
This is an early Phase 1 study in healthy volunteers, so it's not testing a treatment for any disease. The effects may be small or not last, and psilocybin can cause temporary psychological distress.
