First seen May 19, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tested whether a single dose of psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) combined with therapy could help people reduce or stop using cocaine. Forty adults who wanted to quit cocaine took either psilocybin or a placebo in a controlled setting. Researchers measured cocaine use through interviews and urine tests, and also used brain scans to explore how psilocybin might affect addiction-related brain activity.
