Engineered immune cells take on Hard-to-Treat prostate cancer
NCT ID NCT05805371
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This early-phase trial is testing a new treatment for men with a tough-to-treat form of prostate cancer that has spread and no longer responds to hormone therapy. The treatment uses the patient's own immune cells, which are modified in a lab to recognize and attack cancer cells that have a specific marker called PSCA. Some participants will also receive radiation therapy. The main goals are to check safety, find the best dose, and see if the treatment can shrink tumors or lower PSA levels.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
PSCA-targeting CAR-T cells (a type of immune cell therapy made from the patient's own blood)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new treatment option for men with advanced prostate cancer that has stopped responding to hormone therapy.
What could go wrong
This is a very early phase 1 trial with only 21 participants, so safety and dosing are still being figured out. CAR-T cell therapy can cause serious side effects like cytokine release syndrome and nerve problems.
