Blood plasma may boost egg maturation in PCOS patients

NCT ID NCT07514234

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether adding platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to lab dishes helps immature eggs from women with PCOS mature. Researchers tried three different PRP concentrations and found that 5% PRP worked best, leading to more mature eggs than standard methods. The study was small (15 participants) and only looked at egg development in the lab, not pregnancy outcomes.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

platelet-rich plasma (PRP)

What this could lead to

If confirmed, this could lead to a safer way to mature eggs outside the body for women with PCOS, reducing the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.

What could go wrong

This was a very small pilot study (15 participants) and only looked at egg maturation in a lab dish, not actual pregnancy or live birth rates. More research is needed.
