New cocktail aims to tame metastatic prostate cancer
NCT ID NCT03821792
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests a combination of abiraterone, prednisone, and apalutamide in 60 men with hormone-naïve metastatic prostate cancer. The goal is to see how long patients can stay on treatment and how well it controls the cancer. All three drugs work by lowering or blocking male hormones that fuel prostate cancer growth.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Abiraterone acetate, prednisone, and apalutamide
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination could offer a new way to control metastatic prostate cancer by blocking androgen production and activity.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial (60 participants) with no control group, so results may not confirm effectiveness. Side effects from the drugs can include fatigue, high blood pressure, and liver issues.
