New imaging combo could spot hidden prostate cancer recurrence
NCT ID NCT01857037
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether two imaging methods—Histoscanning and multiparametric MRI—can accurately detect and locate prostate cancer that comes back after radiation therapy. Thirty men with rising PSA levels or biopsy-confirmed recurrence were enrolled. Each participant received both imaging scans, and the results were compared with standard biopsies to see how well the scans identified cancer in different parts of the prostate.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could improve how doctors detect and locate recurring prostate cancer after radiation, leading to more precise biopsies and better treatment planning.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 30 participants. The imaging techniques may not prove accurate enough to replace standard biopsy methods.
