Could two radiation sessions be as good as five for prostate cancer?
NCT ID NCT05600400
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial compares two different schedules of MRI-guided radiation for men with low or favorable intermediate risk prostate cancer. One group gets the standard five sessions, the other gets just two sessions. The goal is to see if the shorter course can maintain cancer control while better preserving sexual quality of life. 144 men will be followed for up to 5 years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Stereotactic ablative body radiation (SABR)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a shorter 2-session radiotherapy is as effective as the standard 5-session regimen, potentially reducing side effects and improving quality of life for men with prostate cancer.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 2 trial with only 144 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The shorter course might not control the cancer as well or could have unexpected side effects.
