New scanner could cut prostate cancer scans in half

NCT ID NCT05470699

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a new PET-CT scanner (RefleXion RMRS) can produce clear images of prostate cancer using a standard radioactive tracer. About 34 patients will receive both the standard scan and the new scan. If the new scanner works well, it may allow imaging and radiation planning in one session, reducing the number of visits.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Fluorine F 18 Piflufolastat (18F-DCFPyL)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could allow prostate cancer patients to have imaging and radiation planning in a single session, reducing scan burden.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage imaging study (34 participants) focused on technical performance, not treatment outcomes. The new scanner may not match standard imaging quality.
