Triple drug attack on melanoma: new trial hopes to boost surgery success

NCT ID NCT07511036

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests three immune-boosting drugs (cemiplimab, fianlimab, and ipilimumab) given before surgery in 20 people with advanced but removable melanoma. The goal is to see if the combination is safe and can shrink tumors, potentially improving outcomes. Participants must have stage III or limited stage IV melanoma that can be fully removed by surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

cemiplimab, fianlimab, and ipilimumab (immune-boosting drugs given by IV)

What this could lead to

If successful, this combination could shrink melanoma tumors before surgery, potentially improving long-term outcomes for patients with advanced but removable skin cancer.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The triple drug combo may cause severe side effects, and it's not yet known if it works better than standard treatments.
