IVF breakthrough? lower progesterone dose tested in 1,020 women
NCT ID NCT05899010
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This phase 3 trial tests whether a lower daily dose (600 mg) of vaginal progesterone works as well as the standard dose (800 mg) for supporting pregnancy after a frozen embryo transfer. About 1,020 women undergoing IVF will be randomly assigned to one of the two doses. The main goal is to see if ongoing pregnancy rates at 11-13 weeks are similar between groups.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
vaginal micronized progesterone
What this could lead to
If this works, it could show that a lower dose of progesterone is just as effective for supporting pregnancy after frozen embryo transfer, potentially reducing side effects and cost.
What could go wrong
This is a non-inferiority trial, so it may only confirm that the new dose is not worse than the standard, not necessarily better. Results may not apply to all IVF patients.
