First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether giving people with type 2 diabetes and food insecurity monthly vouchers for fruits and vegetables can improve blood sugar control. Participants receive $100 per month in produce-only gift cards along with dietary education for five months, then switch to usual care, or vice versa. Researchers track changes in blood sugar, cholesterol, weight, and food security over 10 months.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could show that providing free fruits and vegetables helps control blood sugar and improves overall health in people with diabetes who struggle to afford healthy food.
