NCT ID NCT07270159

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether probiotics, a double antibiotic paste, or calcium hydroxide paste can reduce pain after root canal treatment in adults with severe tooth inflammation (irreversible pulpitis). 75 participants received one of the three pastes placed inside the tooth and reported their pain levels over a week. The goal was to find which works best for pain relief.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Probiotics, double antibiotic paste, and calcium hydroxide paste

What this could lead to

If probiotics work, this could point toward a more natural way to manage pain after root canal treatment.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with only 75 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Probiotics may not reduce pain better than standard treatments.
