Summary
This study tests whether adding a trained family advocate to a proven parenting program can help prevent substance use and reduce childhood trauma. About 360 families from 36 high-risk communities in New Jersey will take part. The goal is to see if extra support makes the program more effective at stopping substance use before it starts.

- Active substance
- Strengthening Families Program with or without a Family Advocate
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could provide a proven way to prevent substance use and reduce the impact of childhood trauma in communities that need it most.
- What could go wrong
- This is a behavioral study, not a drug trial, so results depend on how well families engage. It is also limited to specific communities, so findings may not apply everywhere.
