One-Dose antibiotic could slash ventilator pneumonia deaths in brain injury patients

NCT ID NCT06819592

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving a single dose of a common antibiotic soon after a breathing tube is placed can prevent lung infections and improve survival in ICU patients with severe brain injuries (from stroke, trauma, or lack of oxygen). About 3,300 adults on ventilators will be randomly assigned to receive either the antibiotic or a placebo. The goal is to see if this simple preventive step reduces deaths and improves recovery.
