Summary

This study tested whether a special surgical technique performed during lymph node removal could prevent lymphedema, a painful and chronic swelling of the arm. It involved 264 patients with breast cancer or melanoma who were having lymph nodes removed. Researchers compared standard surgery to surgery that included a bypass procedure designed to reroute fluid and prevent swelling.
