Summary
This study tested whether making a small opening in the lining around the heart (called a left posterior pericardiotomy) can prevent new atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass surgery. 270 adults having bypass surgery were randomly assigned to get this extra cut or not. The main goal was to see if the cut lowered the rate of atrial fibrillation before leaving the hospital.
