Sugar-Free diet trial aims to stop fatty liver before it starts in kids

NCT ID NCT05292352

Summary

This 2-year study is testing whether a diet very low in added sugars can prevent non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in Hispanic children who are at high risk. Researchers are working with 103 children ages 6-9 who have overweight or obesity but don't yet have liver problems. One group receives intensive family nutrition counseling and support to follow a low-sugar diet, while the other continues their usual eating habits, to see which approach better prevents fat buildup in the liver.
