Could a simple IV drip during surgery stop chronic pain for breast cancer patients?

NCT ID NCT04874038

Summary

This large international study is testing if giving an intravenous drug called lidocaine during breast cancer surgery can prevent patients from developing long-lasting pain months later. Over 1,600 patients will be randomly assigned to receive either the lidocaine infusion or a placebo (saltwater) during their operation. Researchers will then track the participants' pain levels, medication use, and quality of life for a full year after surgery to see if the treatment makes a difference.
