Could a simple drug combo stop Post-Surgery heart flutters?

NCT ID NCT02750319

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether adding N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) to the standard drug amiodarone can better prevent atrial fibrillation (a type of irregular heartbeat) in people at high risk after major chest surgery. About 184 adults having lung or esophagus surgery will be randomly assigned to get either the combo or amiodarone alone. The goal is to see if the combo reduces dangerous heart rhythm problems within the first week after surgery.
