Stroke rehab timing under the microscope: could waiting 3 days be better?
NCT ID NCT07212738
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether waiting until day 3 after a stroke to start physical therapy is better for patients with a persistent blocked artery. Researchers will test if this delayed approach is feasible and if it helps prevent further brain damage. The study involves 50 adults who have had an ischemic stroke and still have a blocked vessel.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
delayed mobilization (physical therapy starting on or after day 3)
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could guide doctors on the best time to start rehabilitation after a stroke, potentially reducing long-term disability and improving recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early feasibility study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to all stroke patients. The optimal timing for rehab remains unclear, and starting therapy too late could also cause harm.
