First seen Nov 21, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study looks at whether obese patients with a large abdominal wall hernia should lose weight before surgery or have surgery right away. About 258 adults with a BMI between 40 and 55 who are not planning weight loss surgery will be randomly assigned to either a weight management program or upfront surgery. The main goal is to see if upfront surgery is just as good for quality of life one year later.
