New collagen mesh could reduce hernia surgery risks
NCT ID NCT07360691
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tested a special collagen mesh for hernia repair in 30 patients who were at high risk for complications, such as those with diabetes or infections. The mesh is designed to be absorbed by the body and help tissue heal naturally, avoiding problems linked to permanent synthetic mesh. Researchers tracked safety and wound healing for 8 weeks after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
High-Purity Type I Collagen Mesh (Surgicoll-Mesh®)
What this could lead to
If successful, this collagen mesh could offer a safer option for hernia repair in patients at high risk of complications, reducing infection and other issues.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early study with only 30 participants and no comparison group. The mesh is resorbable and may not provide long-term strength, and results may not apply to all hernia types.
