Can a simple wipe before surgery stop infections? new trial tests it
NCT ID NCT07508566
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will test whether using wipes with a special antibacterial solution (chlorhexidine gluconate) before surgery can reduce bacteria on the skin better than standard cleaning. It involves 40 men with urethral stricture who are scheduled for reconstructive surgery. Researchers will measure bacteria levels at key skin sites to see which method works best.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
2% chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) wipes
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that using CHG wipes before surgery lowers infection rates, leading to better recovery for men with urethral stricture.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It focuses on bacterial levels, not actual infection rates, so the real-world benefit is uncertain.
