Could a common pain pill protect the brain during surgery?

NCT ID NCT07630753

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether giving pregabalin before brain tumor surgery can safely reduce pressure inside the skull. One hundred adults will receive either pregabalin or a placebo before and on the morning of surgery. Researchers will measure pressure using a painless eye ultrasound instead of an invasive brain monitor.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
pregabalin
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, non-invasive way to manage brain pressure during surgery and speed up recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study using an indirect pressure measurement. The drug may not reduce pressure meaningfully, and results may not apply to all patients.
