Pregnancy warning sign may flag heart risk in type 1 diabetes
NCT ID NCT07479329
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will follow 1300 women with type 1 diabetes who had a pregnancy. Researchers want to see if a high risk of preeclampsia (a dangerous pregnancy complication) in the first trimester is linked to hidden heart disease years later. Participants will have an ultrasound to check for plaque in their neck arteries and other heart health tests. The goal is to better understand long-term risks, not to test a new treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help identify women with type 1 diabetes who are at higher risk for heart problems after pregnancy, leading to earlier monitoring or prevention.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will only show links, not cause and effect. Results may take years and might not change care directly.
