New taper strategy aims to free PMR patients from Long-Term steroids
NCT ID NCT05636501
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a nurse-led, step-by-step plan to slowly reduce prednisolone (a steroid) helps people with polymyalgia rheumatica stop the drug safely and stay in remission. About 120 newly diagnosed patients will either follow this structured taper or receive usual care from their general practitioner. The goal is to see if the structured approach leads to more patients being off steroids and symptom-free after one year.
