One bag, not 24 hours: a simpler way to check dialysis quality

NCT ID NCT07659067

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a single sample of used dialysis fluid can accurately predict how well the treatment is cleaning the blood. Currently, patients must collect all fluid drained over 24 hours, which is cumbersome and error-prone. Researchers will develop and validate a prediction model using data from 300 adults on peritoneal dialysis across four centers in China. If the model works, it could make routine monitoring much simpler.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could simplify routine monitoring for people on peritoneal dialysis, making it easier and less error-prone to check if their treatment is working.

What could go wrong

This is a prediction model study, not a treatment trial. The model may not be accurate enough to replace the standard method, and results may not apply to all dialysis patients.
