Can Ultrasound-Guided shots use less steroid for knee pain?
NCT ID NCT07544576
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether a smaller dose of steroid injected into the knee with ultrasound guidance works as well as a larger dose given without ultrasound. The goal is to reduce side effects while still easing pain. About 140 people with knee osteoarthritis will receive one of the two treatments and report their pain and function.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- triamcinolone (corticosteroid) injection
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that using ultrasound allows a lower steroid dose, reducing side effects while still relieving knee pain.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase study (140 participants) comparing two injection methods, not testing a new drug. Results may not apply to all patients, and the lower dose might prove less effective.
