Massive trial aims to find best diabetes drug for heart and kidney protection

Summary
This study is testing two common diabetes drugs—SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists—to see which one better prevents serious heart and kidney events in people with type 2 diabetes who already have or are at high risk for heart disease. About 6,000 participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two drugs and followed for years. The goal is to reduce heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, and death.
