Prebiotic powder for tots: could it boost mood and sleep?
NCT ID NCT07401212
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether giving 3-5 year olds a daily prebiotic fiber powder for several weeks can improve their mood, sleep, emotional control, and thinking. Parents of 106 children with low fiber intake will report on their child's behavior and emotions. The study is double-blind, meaning neither the families nor the researchers know who gets the real prebiotic versus a placebo.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
prebiotic fiber powder
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple dietary supplement to help young children with mood, sleep, and emotional regulation.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-stage trial (106 children) testing a dietary supplement, not a drug. The effects may be small or not noticeable, and results may not apply to all children.
