Talking it out: study tests if a simple consultation eases anxiety before port placement

NCT ID NCT07559981

First seen May 04, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a special consultation before getting an implantable port (a small device placed under the skin for giving medications) can help cancer patients feel less anxious. About 150 adults who need a port for cancer treatment will be split into two groups: one gets the usual information, and the other also gets a detailed, private talk with a healthcare professional. The goal is to see if this extra chat lowers anxiety and reduces problems like forgotten blood tests or medication errors.
