Pre-Ablation boot camp: could exercise before heart procedure cut arrhythmias?
NCT ID NCT07270757
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a 4-week program of exercise and psychological education before catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation can improve heart fitness and reduce arrhythmias after the procedure. About 100 adults aged 18-70 scheduled for their first ablation will be randomly assigned to the prehabilitation program or usual care. The main outcomes are peak oxygen uptake at 3 months and any atrial arrhythmic events within 90 days.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
structured prehabilitation program (exercise training + psychological education)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that a short pre-surgery program helps people with atrial fibrillation recover better and have fewer heart rhythm problems after ablation.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The program requires commitment and may not be suitable for all patients.
