NCT ID NCT07451756
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether practicing pranayama breathing exercises for 15-20 minutes a day, 5 days a week for 8 weeks, could help adults aged 60 and older feel less stressed, sleep better, and enjoy a higher quality of life. Researchers compared 74 participants who did the breathing exercises with a control group that did nothing. They measured stress, sleep, and quality of life at the start, at 4 weeks, and at 8 weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
pranayama breathing technique (Ujjayi, Nadi Shodhana, Sama Vritti)
What this could lead to
If effective, this simple breathing practice could offer older adults a low-cost, drug-free way to lower stress and improve sleep and quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with 74 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The control group received no intervention, which can bias outcomes. Benefits may be modest or not last long-term.
