Botox for bladder: scientists probe hidden microbiome link
NCT ID NCT07025044
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looks at how Botox injections for overactive bladder affect the community of bacteria in the urinary tract of postmenopausal women. Researchers will collect urine samples before and after treatment to see if changes in the microbiome relate to treatment success or side effects like urinary tract infections. The goal is to learn more about who benefits most from Botox and why some women develop infections afterward.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
onabotulinum toxin type A (Botox)
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors understand why some women get urinary tract infections after Botox treatment for overactive bladder.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early feasibility study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to all women. It is designed to test methods, not to prove treatment effectiveness.
